2020 Mt. Carmel Junior High Spelling Bee

Mr. Newkirk and Mrs. Taylor welcome the ten junior high spelling bee contestants, parents, faculty and fellow students to the 2020 Mt. Carmel Junior High School Spelling Bee.  Judges, Mrs. Kemper and Mrs. Kendall were introduced as well as spelling announcer, Mr. Holt. Competitors from 7th grade include Jersey Smith, Megan Hagerty, Mya Keneipp, Josilynn Morgan and Landon Johnson.  Competitors from 8th grade include Kiersten James, Jaden Heinrich, Madisyn Etheridge, Bryhley Barber and Savannah Meier.

The winner of the spelling bee was 7th-grade student Mya Keneipp, daughter of Stephanie Keneipp. She spelled “pressure” to win the championship. Mya will now move onto the Tri-State Spelling Bee which will be held on February 29th in Evansville.  Coming in as 1st runner up was 7th-grade student, Megan Hagerty, daughter of Julie and the late Tim Hagerty. Megan spelled correctly for 13 rounds, only to misspell the word charred. The 2nd place runner up position went to 8th-grade student, Savannah Meier, daughter of Holly and Larry Burns and Josh and Nikcole Meier. Congratulations to all of these great spellers!

Service Learning Students treated contestants and family to refreshments following the spelling bee.
