This week, Jeremy Peterson from Tutor.com demonstrated to students a valuable tool available to all Mt. Carmel Jr/Sr High School students. It offers one-to-one homework help and tutoring, online in real-time.
This program, partnered through a Gear Up grant and limited to about 20-30 schools in Illinois, allows students to reach out for help from carefully vetted expert tutors. Students can login with their unique individual username and ask for help with homework in more than 40 subjects, including Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Business, Foreign Language, Computer Skills and Test Prep in SAT, PSAT, and ACT. Students can submit an essay paper for review and receive feedback in no longer than 12 hours. All tutor session transcripts can be emailed directly to the student for future reference. Students can also schedule a tutor session with one of their “FAVORITE” tutors if they want. This is a great opportunity for students to get assistance when teachers can not be available. There are no downloads or plugins and minimal tech setup required. Any technology with access to the internet can be used.
