Mollly Rafferty and Kim Mandrell
Molly Rafferty, a sophomore at Mt. Carmel High School, and 1st Chair flute player rose to the challenge given by Band Director, Kim Mandrell, at the onset of the pandemic to keep playing her instrument even though traditional ensembles could not meet.  Through a competitive virtual card game that Mandrell created, students played (their instrument) through the royal flush, earning a card each time they passed a level.  Molly practiced intensely and tested off 160 Smart Music® lines in order to achieve the status of being an "ACE".  While other students earned the Jack, Queen, and King, none but Molly earned the ACE.   Molly is awarded The Instrumentalist Magazine Merit Award in recognition of outstanding contributions, leadership, and service to the school music program.  Congratulations Molly!!
