MCJH 8TH GRADE SCIENCE

Heredity and Inheritance / Genetics Unit

8th Grade Science Students are currently studying the topics of Heredity and Inheritance as a part of their Genetics Unit.

Logan Kennard of Kennard Farms, who currently works as the Wabash County 4-H Extension Program Coordinator, was a guest speaker on Wednesday, Feb. 22nd. He gave an excellent presentation on how the topics learned in class apply to the real world of farm crops and livestock breeding.  The lesson concluded with a cool activity on Selective Breeding using different colored beans. The students were attempting to develop a solid color animal by mixing their colored beans with other student’s beans.  The record sheets each student kept were used to make decisions of who the students would “ mate” their cup of colored beans with to achieve the desired appearance.

Thank you  Logan for sharing your knowledge and experience with our students!
