LEARNING THE MANY USES OF PETROLEUM AND OIL PRODUCTION
The 8th-grade students in Sarah Dougherty's classes ended a unit on Fossil Fuels with a presentation by guest speakers from the Illinois Petroleum Resources Board. Seth Whitehead, Executive Director, along with Travis Thompson and Mike Payne, who are local oil producers, spent Tuesday, December 19th, presenting facts about the many uses of petroleum and oil production. The students were able to see core samples from drilling projects and scale models of both a pumping unit and an oil drilling rig. The gentleman also shared information on local career opportunities in the oil and gas industry. A huge thank you to these men who gave up their valuable time in the field to share their knowledge with our students!
