Red Ribbon Week - Dress Up Days

This year Mt. Carmel Elementary School would like to highlight our community partnerships that are helping meet the needs of our students. The Brown Bag Buddies program, run through the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, is meeting the needs of our students by providing supplemental weekend nutrition items and snacks to Pre-Kindergarten - 2nd grade students.
This year MCES partnered with the High School Rotary program known as the Interact Club to help raise awareness on food insecurity. Senior members of the Interact Club read “Lulu and the Hunger Monster” to our students and the response was great. The referrals for the program went from 18 families being served to 32!
Our student’s had a chance to hear from high school students who they look up to that there is no shame in saying you need help, especially when you're hungry!
MCES would like to thank the Interact Club members, Jason Miller, Justus Groves, and Anthony Bleyer for reading the story and to our Brown Bag Buddies for stepping up year after year and meeting this need.

Head Lice Information: With colder weather coming and kiddos spending more time together in closer spaces, it is time to be a little more aware of head lice. Just a reminder that scratching is the most common sign of lice, especially if the child is scratching behind the ears and at the nape of the neck. If you see your child scratching please take a look. Head lice are spread through person to person contact with hats, clothing, brushes and etc. Lice do not jump or fly. Please talk with your children and encourage them not share their belongings with others. Parents please be diligent inspecting your child's head daily for the signs of head lice. If you have any questions or would like more education please let me know. Stephanie Kolb BSN-RN, PEL-CSN

MCES students and faculty dressed up for "Career Day" as there were discussions on various careers throughout the day.

FYI - Dental Safari will be seeing students next week, September 8th and 9th. If you have already completed the online registration and consent form, great, then you are done and your child will have a dental exam completed on one of those days. If you are still interested and have not completed the registration and consent form you can go to www.dentalsafariforms.com and complete the registration process. If you are having difficulty getting in to see a dentist for the required Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 6th grade or 9th grade dental screening this would complete that requirement. If you have any questions please feel free to call 618-262-5104 ext 112. Thank you! Mrs. Kolb BSN, RN, PEL-CSN

Social Media Tip

District #348 Preschool for All is conducting Child Find/Preschool Screenings for children ages 3 to 5 who are not yet enrolled in public schools and who are not kindergarten eligible. The screening checks each child’s progress in hearing, vision, speech, language, and coordination skills. This will give parents a better idea of how their child is progressing at this very young age before they begin school. This screening program is free and parents will receive immediate feedback on how their child is developing. Head Start personnel will also be present to explain their program and services. Screenings will be held on August 30th, August 31st, and September 1st. The screening procedure takes about 45 minutes, and appointments must be made so that children do not have a long wait period. Parents should call 618-262-4623 to make an appointment or to get more information.
The MCES Back to School Bash will be held Tuesday, August 16, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm. Four [water] Inflatables, sno cones, & music all free to our students!
