MCES-Change in Menu for Thursday, April 8 - instead of chili, it will be taco soup. It is changed in dining but not in calendar menu.
MCES Kindergarten classes celebrated a spring feast today before they left on spring break. This has not been a normal year and they missed their Thanksgiving Day feast, so this was done to brighten their year. They ate ham, mashed potatoes, corn and apple sauce. Thank you Ms. Caren for fixing the meal.

MCES celebrated their March Star Students on Wednesday, March 24. The students that were chosen shined in their classes with good behavior and completing their work. Way to go!

District #348 Preschool for All is conducting Child Find/Preschool Screenings for Birth to 5-year-old children not yet enrolled in public schools and who will not be kindergarten eligible in the fall. The screening checks each child’s progress in hearing, vision, speech, language, and coordination skills. This will give parents a better idea of how their child is progressing at this very young age before he/she begins school. This screening program is free and parents will receive immediate feedback on how their child is developing. Head Start personnel will also be present to explain their program and services.
Screenings will be held on April 13th, 14th and 15th. The screening procedure takes about 45 minutes, and appointments must be made so that children do not have a long wait period. Parents should call 618-262-4623 to make an appointment or to get more information.
This is a reminder that there is no school in Wabash District 348 Friday, March 19. This is a scheduled day off. Also, if you wish to order a shirt from Mt. Carmel Elementary School please do so by Wednesday, March 24th.
MCES would like to shout out a big thank to our parents for completing the 5 Essential Survey. As of today we have 41% of our parents that completed the survey. If you have not completed the survey and wish to the deadline is April 2. The winners of the Amazon gift cards are: EC/Pre-K: Jessica Moore; Kindergarten: Kelci Schonert; 1st Grade: Jessenyn Lash and 2nd Grade: Stacy Wyatt.
MCES had a pajama day and Mrs. Hadley (PE teacher) got a pie in the face for reaching the Kids Heart Challenge fundraising goals. During Kids Heart Challenge, students learned about their heart and raised money for the American Heart Association. The school raised $3,756.67, and a portion of that will come back to the PE program.
Madison Escobedo-Milan is modeling with a Leprechaun windsock that the class made during indoor recess. Ms. Misty Jones is shining as one of the best indoor recess teachers at MCES according to Mrs. Lennette Jones' class.
Mt. Carmel Elementary School is selling their school MCES shirt. All orders must be in by Wednesday, March 24th, so we can get them submitted before Spring Break. Please pay very close attention to the prices and return the order form and money to your child's homeroom teacher. Please let next years Kindergarten parents know. This short will not be ordered next year.
The students at MCES achieved all their goals for "Kid's Heart Challenge". Thank you for all the donations that have helped make this cause successful. The students have earned a pajama day tomorrow, so please allow them to wear their pajamas to school.
Dain Alka collected $521 to be the top person, so he was allowed to throw a pie in Mrs. Hadley's face. Way to go Dain.
This is a reminder that Aly Mae Images will be at Mt. Carmel Elementary School tomorrow to take the photos of 1st and 2nd grade students. No money is due at the time of photos. Photos will be taken in the morning only.

Today, MCES celebrated the February Star Students of the Month. We are very proud of our students. They received a certificate, candy and a junior cone from Tastee Freeze.

After discussions with our local health department and state officials, all Wabash #348 schools will discontinue temperature checks at school bus pick ups and when entering the school buildings. We must stress that it is of the utmost importance that you do not send your child to school when he or she is not feeling well. I want to thank everyone with their patience throughout this process. As with everything right now, situations can and will immediately change. Stay safe and Go Aces!
A very special thank you to TCC (the Verizon Store) in Mt. Carmel for donating items to the teachers. They donated: coffee, microwave popcorn, granola bars, hot chocolate, pens, pencils, sticky notes, markers, highlighters, facial tissues and hand sanitizer. MCES really appreciates the items.
