MCES - Menu change - Friday, March 27th - Chicken Fajita

MCES/MCGS is committed to ensuring the health and safety of our students and staff. Therefore we would like to remind you during this flu season and concern of the coronavirus if your child has symptoms such as high fever, cough, sore throat, and/or tiredness please keep them home to prevent spreading sickness. MCES/MCGS will waive perfect attendance awards this year to help prevent students coming to school if feeling ill to keep perfect attendance. Remember washing hands, not touching eyes, nose, mouth, cover cough/sneeze, and avoid contact with people who are sick will help prevent illness. Thank You.

Due to the high number of cases this year of influenza A & B, strep throat, and potentially COVID-19, during the second semester the District will suspend all attendance requirements pertaining to semester finals and perfect attendance awards. This change in policy is in accordance with the recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control, the Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Department of Public Health. The District does not want to promote or encourage students attending school while not feeling completely healthy. As for returning to school from illness, it is District policy that the student must be fever free for twenty-four hours without the use of fever reducing medication prior to returning. If you have any questions, please call your child’s school office.

The Kindergarten teachers attended the ILASCD conference to learn and experience new practices to enhance their classrooms!

MCES wrapped up Dr. Seuss week with a special concert by the 6th grade MCGS choir under the direction of Mrs. Ellen Wall. The students enjoyed the students performing and reading several special Dr. Seuss materials especially "Green Eggs and Ham". MCES concentrated on how important it is to read and have fun.

Thursday, May 7th there will be no Kindergarten classes at Mount Carmel Elementary School. Please kindergarten parents mark your calendars. Kid's Heart Challenge at MCES - Every child received a paper that told parents how to sign up online for on- line giving. If you can help the school out our goal is to have 50% of our students signed up online. At this time we have 108 and need 156. If you have not created your child's online account, please do so. If the students reach their goal, they get to wear pajamas to school. Deadline if March 13th. Thank you for your help!

The 2nd Grade Students recently learned about Dental Health from Kenzie Macke (a Dental Hygienist at Comprehensive Dental Care of Mt. Carmel). The students also received a goodie bag filled with items to help care for their teeth.

Zoodles Animal Education program came to MCES on Thursday, February 27th. This is a free mobile program that consisted of a 45 minute oral presentation where the speaker taught the students about the animals habitat, eating habits and if the animals are endangered. The students learned about a
Solomn Island Eclectus Parrot, Indonesian Blue Tongue Skink, Red Footed Tortoise, Kinkajou (honey bear) and a Joey Kangeroo. Zoodles offers many different programs for Pre-school and up children.

The students really enjoyed Zoodles animal show at MCES. More information and photos to come soon. Unfortunately the team ran out of time and 2nd grade did not get their pictures taken. Zoodles will come back with the animals and the 2nd grade will have a chance to get their pictures. The teachers have the money until they return. Thank you for your patience.
