We are so excited to announce that we have a National Finalist!! Over the summer, Junior Liv Alka was recognized at the Illinois State Convention as a National Finalist Candidate for AgriScience Fair. In early August, it was announced that Liv had placed Top 10 and was moving on to Nationals. Liv's AgriScience Fair project focuses on the preservation methods of sweet corn. She will be competing virtually in September at the National level. This is a first for Mt Carmel FFA and we couldn't be more proud!! Congratulations and good luck at Nationals!!
Fancy new equipment at the MCHS football field. This new robot painter will help save some time down at the three football fields (band, practice, and game). This allows the custodians to concentrate their efforts in other places.
The Junior/Senior High School is getting some much needed shade in front of the building. There used to be a large tree out there, but Mother Nature had other plans. This shelter is going to be a great space for an outdoor classroom.
Keeping it tech savvy with our Golden Aces! Mrs. Witsman is always willing to spill tech knowledge. Mrs. Henager is taking things to the next level in her classroom. Thank you ladies for letting me share how awesome you are!
August 3 through August 5 our newly elected officer team attended Officer Retreat at Garden of the Gods, where we did lots of team bonding activities, planned out the year ahead of us, hiked, ate good food prepared by the officers, and made lots of memories. This trip was not only to plan the year, but to have our officers bond since we didn't get the chance last year due to Covid. We had such a good time and can not wait for the year to come! Wait till you see what all we have planed!
August 10 through August 15 we had two individuals compete at the Illinois State Fair showing their livestock. Lexi Stevens, showing her heifer, placed 5th in her class on day one and 1st in her class on day two. Gage Kennard, showing his pigs, placed 1st in his class and was also Champion with his Poland gilt!! We are so proud of these two and can not wait to see what comes to them in the future. Congratulations Lexi and Gage!!!
SEPTEMBER 8th and SEPTEMBER 9th @ Mt. Carmel Grade School, parents do not need to be present. Dental Safari is a mobile dentistry unit that is based out of Southern Illinois. They provide dental services to students who do not have access to a dentist or a dental home. Wabash Community School District #348 has teamed up with Dental Safari to provide dental services to those students who do not have access to dental services. Dental Safari will provide a dental exam, dental cleaning and dental sealants. All Kindergarten, 2nd grade, 6th grade and 9th grade students are required to have a dental exam completed prior to the end of the school year, so if you lack access to a dentist this opportunity may be just for you. Beach Dance will be Friday, August 20 from 7:30 to 9:30 behind the Driver's Ed Shed. Admission will be $3 and all currently enrolled Mt. Carmel High School students welcomed. (No students from other schools or graduates admitted)
One week from today will be the first opportunity to come and see the Golden Aces Football team in action! Our annual Gatorbowl will be Thursday, August 19th at 6:00. For admission, we ask that you bring a sports drink. We hope to see you there. Go Aces!
MCHS Athletic Cancellation:
The Mt. Carmel Boys and Girls Golf Invite scheduled for Thursday, August 12th at West Berwick Golf Course has been CANCELLED due to extreme heat. We are currently under a heat advisory until Thursday evening at 8:00pm.
What a great way to start the year!? Many of our wonderful students showed up early to distribute doughnuts to our students, faculty, and staff! Completely on their own! Another example of the great young leaders we have at MCHS. It’s going to be a GREAT year!
Welcome to the first day of school!!! As a reminder, we will be selling parking passes to seniors today at 2:40 in the library. Remember to bring $10, the make and model of your vehicle, and the license plate number. Juniors will have the same opportunity on Thursday and Sophomores on Friday. Students must be 16 years of age or older to purchase a pass. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Steve Holt in the office.
Football practice on Wednesday, August 11, will be moved back to 6:00 due to the heat advisory. Boys will need Helmet and Shoulder pads.
Freshmen - you will need to be in Mr. Mandrell's room (Library) at 5:00 with Sam Hodges (Athletic Trainer) to do a concussion baseline test.
Attached are the step by step directions for parents of athletes, to fill out the necessary paperwork (electronically) that is needed before your student athlete is able to play in an athletic event. Every parent MUST register their student. If a student is not in this system, he/she can't play.

Things are shaping up at the Junior/Senior High.
We have been doing a lot of improvements around the building with more to come. One of them is getting new asphalt for Plum Street near the stadium and the adjoining parking lots. This area was in great need of repair. As you can see from the before and after photos, the project turned out great. This is just an example of the ways that we are utilizing the 1% sales tax money that is collected throughout the county. Thank you for shopping local.
Anyone interested in playing football this year should attend a Player & Parent Meeting tonight at 7:00 in the MCHS Auditorium. We will cover a number of items before official practice begins on Monday, August 9th.

The Marching Golden Ace Color Guard stayed on point while repping and stepping on day two of band camp. The friendly confines of the Hilltop was warm, but rendered gains for these ladies.
